Drawing Tools

DesignPoint provides the following categories of drawing and text tools:

  • Lines: line by two points, parallel line, perpendicular line, tangent to a circle, tangent to an ellipse.
  • Circles: circle by centre and diameter, circle by two points, circle by three points, circle tangent to circle, circle tangent to line, concentric circle.
  • Polygons: rectangle, square, rhombus, trapezium, parallelogram, star, irregular polygon.
  • Ellipse: by centre and dimensions, by top-left and dimensions.
  • Arc: by two points or by three points.
  • Polyline
  • Spline Curve
  • Bezier Curve
  • Text: with complete formatting options.
  • Picture: import pictures in various formats such as PNG, JPEG, and GIF.

Shapes can be drawn or changed by using the mouse or by typing in the exact coordinates, lengths and angles.

Shape Editing Tools

  • Aligning the sides of shapes and spacing shapes evenly
  • Ordering shape layers
  • Grouping shapes
  • Adding and deleting points from polylines and polygons
  • Editing lines: setting line length, splitting a line, splitting at intersections, constructing a fillet, etc.
  • Array copy: arranging copies of a shape along a line, around a circle, or in a rectangular grid.

Snapping

Snapping makes it easier to specify coordinates accurately when you draw using the mouse. For example, by turning on grid snapping, the cursor will automatically move to the nearest grid point as shapes are drawn or changed.
